Splunk appender for log4j version 1.2?

We have a large (and clunky) vendor-provided application, that uses log4j-1.2.x. The vendor has no plans to upgrade that, unfortunately.

We'd like to send logs to Splunk directly, rather than have log-forwarder comb through the multitude of log-files. Unfortunately, the splunk-library-javalogging only supports log4j-2.x at this time.

Any chance the library can add support for the older log4j API? Any other options?
