MIB file required?

Hi I'm pretty new to snmp monitoring. Am I required to get my vendor's custom mib files in .egg format to be able to poll them? Or will custom MIB still be pollable without this file added? I wasn't to clear on when you would need to do that.

I'm also to pull the system uptime correctly but get "No Such Instance currently exists at this OID"
for every custom mib oid i've tried so far.

The SNMP modular input ships with many generic MIBs , but if you have a custom Vendor MIB that you want to be applied to your OID's , then you need to load this in.

Regarding the "No Such Instance currently exists at this OID" error , you most likely entered an incorrect OID.
