The only way I've been able to accomplish this is by setting up a tags.conf file or a lookup file with all the information I want. its not ideal since, its not dynamic but it works.
The other way around this is to setup SNMP in another box and then send this information to Splunk, I've seen it working with a Riverbed appliance and Splunk, but I'm not sure how its done in detail.
