Help configuring ADFS SSO for Splunk on Linux

We've been tasked with migrating Splunk Enterprise 7.1.3 from a windows server to Linux server so we can utilize more apps. Our current configuration utilizes smart cards and SSO via ADFS. Our plan is to leave our Windows server up until we can get a basic Splunk server on Linux working, and then migrate the data once we can login. We've followed the below links to no avail.
We've been working on this problem off and on for a month now and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Have you configured this by copying the existing config files from your Windows host, or have you gone through the SAML configuration from scratch in the GUI?

Cheers
Will

Hi Will,
When I inherited our Splunk instance, the previous admin had said that he copied the windows data to Linux, and was having no success, and we've been either logging in with a username and password and trying to configure it and doing it via the CLI.
