Bad data in Web Intelligence

I've installed Splunk Web Intelligence app, and installed the Universal Forwarder on one of my web servers. On that server I configured it to forward data from the IIS Logs directory to the Splunk server, port 9997.
I then went into the Setup for the App; added the data & specified the log sources (sourcetype=iis). I see that there is data coming from my web server, but when I click the preview button I see data, but it isn't in a format that's readable. Here is an example:

Is this something wrong on the splunk server or the server with the forwarder?

I think you have a TCP input rather than a receiving port. Remove the TCP input on your splunk server and add a receiving port as per http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/latest/Deploy/Enableareceiver

Yes I did have a TCP port for the data. I deleted it, and added a port for receiving.
When I go back to the app & select Setup, how do I configure the Add Data? If I select Data Type = IIS Logs, I can consume data on this server or Forward the logs from another server. When I select the Forward option, I just get the opportunity to download the universal forwarder. Rather than select 'IIS logs', I think I should use 'From Files and directories', but I don't know which one.
