App Exporter: Why is the /local folder not backed up in an .spl file?

Dear Martin,

I had a look at your App Exporter app. The \local folder is not backed up in an .spl file. Is this expected?

Thanks,
Emmanuel.

The local folder is backed up - after being rolled into default. Your local folder within the exporting instance doesn't change, it's just done in the .spl file.
The idea of packaging your app is to be the author of the app, install it somewhere, and have local changes survive upgrades just like splunk's own apps behave. If you shipped with local content, later localizations and upgrades would clash.

Note, the actual packaging itself isn't part of the App Exporter but rather shipped with Splunk Enterprise itself: http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/6.4.0/RESTREF/RESTapps#apps.2Flocal.2F.7Bname.7D.2Fpacka...
