After installing the MongoDB Monitoring app, why do I see no data in the mongodb index?

I installed the MongoDB Monitoring app, but I don't see any data. There is no data in the mongodb index and I don't see a defined data input. Do I need to point this to a script or log file? (I have an instance of MongoDB 3.2.1 running on the same machine as Splunk)

The app expects data in the 'mongodb' index by default (which you can change by editing the macros). There are at least two ways to get MongoDB logs into Splunk:
- configure a Splunk forwarder to monitor the mongod.log file(s)
- configure MongoDB to send logs to Splunk via syslog
