Alerting

How do I get the hostname from a triggered alert?

Splunk finds the desired pattern in the logs eg. "error xyz" and triggers a script to forward this condition into our enterprise monitoring system. All good stuff.

How can I determine the hostname of the offending server so I can include this little detail into our enterprise system via the triggered script?

Sorry if this is a total noob question, but I can't find a clear answer.

We are running Splunk 6.2.3 Enterprise.

Hi @az300,
I'm not sure how your script sends information into your monitoring system, but you could try checking out tokens that work with an alert's saved search to access fields, such as "hostname", in the search results.

Here is some documentation that might help:
http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/6.2.0/Alert/Setupalertactions#Tokens_available_for_email...

Let me know if you have other questions!
All the best,
