How to configure Splunk DB Connect app and connect an external database?

Dear Splunkers,

I am trying to configure Splunk DB connect , when I try to save Java Home I got the following error:
Encountered the following error while trying to update: In handler 'localapps': Error while posting to url=/servicesNS/nobody/dbx/dbx/install/java

and when I try to connect an External Database:
Database Type: Microsoft SQL Server
I got the following error:
Encountered the following error while trying to save: In handler 'databases': Unknown error while validating database connection

1) have you checked that the Java bridge is up and running ?
2) Are you using the right JDBC jars to connect to the DB ?
3) Have you checked the DB connection and credentials details ?
