Counting number of characters in a Splunk field

Is it possible to count number of characters in a splunk field? I can only seem to find a way to count specific instances of a character.

Do you mean to calculate the length? If so, use the following:

your search... |  eval length=len(field)

[somesoni2]

Have you checked function "len" with eval?
