Chart with textual / string / enumerative Y axis tick labels (such as "off" / "on") instead of numbers

Is it possible to display textual (string) values instead of numbers on the Y axis?

I have a time series with a field called "state", which contains an integer number. Each number represents a certain state. Examples:

0="off", 1="on"
0="off", 1="degraded", 2="standby", 3="normal", 4="boost"

Now I would like to have a line or bar chart showing the respective words on the Y axis ticks instead of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4.
