Hello , I need help with finding or configuring my splunk server with a ip address so i can send syslogs from my pfsense device to the splunk server and local address (127.0.0.1) will obviously not work. I have looked every where and the solutions are not clear i dont know why with a such friendly and beautiful software tool like splunk there is no option to configure an ip address or even find it also i am using windows 10 if anyone can help me i would really appreciate it.
Hi @ali-a981,
Splunk uses the Operative System of the server, so, you have to run "ifconfig" (on Linux) or "ipconfig" (on Windows.
Ciao.

So you are saying the IP address of my laptop is the same IP address of Splunk can you be more specific please
Hi @ali-a981,
yes, as I said the Splunk server uses the interfaces of the operative system, so if your Splunk Enterprise is installed on your laptop, it uses the IP address of your laptop.
Ciao.
Giuseppe
In days past (read: the last ~25 years), I would have recommended Microsoft Networking Essentials / Networking Fundamentals as a general networking primer in Windows, but Microsoft has retired them! @ali-a981, if you're interested in learning more about networking in Windows or IP networking in general, the CompTIA Network+ courseware or legacy courseware/books published by Microsoft Press are a great place to start. This course appears to be Azure focused, but it should still be relevant to Windows 10: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/modules/network-fundamentals/. If you're looking for something deeper, the go to TCP/IP reference is TCP/IP Illustrated Volume 1: https://www.informit.com/store/tcp-ip-illustrated-volume-1-the-protocols-9780321336316.
