Lost My Splunk Enterprise Trial After Changing to Free Version

Dear Splunk Support Team,

I recently activated a Splunk Enterprise Free Trial on my account, but while exploring the settings, I mistakenly changed the license type from Enterprise Trial to Free. After doing so, I lost access to my trial features and it now shows only the free license limits.

Could you please help me restore my Splunk Enterprise Trial or guide me on how I can re-enable it?
My account email is m.ibtesaamshah@gmail.com , and I was using Splunk Enterprise version Version: [ 10.0.1  ]
- OS: [ Windows 11 Home Single Language (Version 24H2, Build 26100.6725

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Best regards,
Mohammed Ibtesaam Ali Shah

Hi @MIAS07

You cannot revert back to the Trial license using the UI, however you can modify the server.conf file.

Find and edit the file at $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/system/local/server.conf

*REMOVE* the following lines:

[license]
active_group = Free

Save the file and then restart Splunk.

This will then restore the trial license for the remainder of the trial.

@MIAS07

If you switch to another license, you cannot return to the Trial. You must install an Enterprise license or switch to Splunk Free.

https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/administer/admin-manual/10.0/configure-splunk-licenses/...

If you’ve installed Splunk on a virtual machine, you can remove the current installation and perform a fresh setup. Doing so will allow you to receive another 60-day Enterprise Trial license.
