Why SSL cert for HTTP endpoint of Splunk Cloud is self-signed?

We are developing an application that forwards data to Splunk Cloud over HTTPS.
I signed up for a trial account, and noticed the SSL Cert is self-signed.

  1. Why does Splunk Cloud use a self-signed cert?
  2. Can Splunk Cloud install certs that are signed by well-known CA?
