What is the indexing rate?

What's exactly the indexing rate? Is it the rate of receiving data into the queues or the rate in which data is written to disk? or something else ; - )

While looking at the query, DMC is fetching this data from Indexer rest | rest /services/server/introspection/indexer so it looks like this speed is receiving data on Indexer, not data which is written by Indexer to disk.

Makes perfect sense. Please convert to an answer ; - ) so, the term indexing rate is a bit misleading in my mind.
