Managing users - deleting user says user does not exist?

Anyone know what's going on here? It won't let me delete a local user. I can see them in the UI, but cannot manage them.

I tried to delete via the CLI and this is what I get:

$ sudo /opt/splunk/bin/splunk remove user test1
Attempted to delete a user that does not exist: test1
$ sudo /opt/splunk/bin/splunk list user | grep 'test1'
username:        test1

We're not using LDAP, and these are local Splunk users.

did you try restarting Splunkd service it will clear anything that has not updated in UI.

Else you can try https://<splunk server>:8000/debug/refresh.

may be user has been removed and is just visible on UI.

hope that helps.

If the user test1 is not a local splunk user you can't delete the user in Splunk itself. Instead you have to delete the user in the source system ,e.g., LDAP Group.
