How do I connect to Active Directory groups without Splunk for Windows Infrastructure or Splunk for Microsoft Exchange?

I am trying to use Active Directory group membership to filter my events. Our work has nothing to do with Windows or MS Exchange so trying to configure those would be difficult to impossible.

I've already connected to our Active Directory for LDAP authentication. Is there a standalone way to create a lookup from specified Active Directory groups?

Assuming I understand what you are asking, have you tried or looked at the Splunk Supporting Add-on for Active Directory (https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/1151/) which provides the ldapsearch and ldapfilter commands?

I've tried this so many times, but had given up on it, thinking it had to be used in conjunction with the Apps I can't use. With your prodding, I started over from scratch and found I just needed a simple workaround as described in the install docs. Thanks!
