Hi,
Splunk software is separate in two parts: Splunkd wich is the server and splunk web wich is the GUI.
The most important part is splunkd because it is the heart of splunk.
Splunkd can run without splunk web and it can be use with CLI; but splunk web can't be run or use without splunkd. So splunk web is the best way to use splunkd.
To conclude, i'll say that splunk doesn't need web service to run because it can be use with CLI.

Thank you NOUMSSI for your time
the problem i am facing right now is that i am using CentOS 7 and i have successfully installed splunk using the CLI and they gave me this web interface http://127.0.0.1:8000 and at first i was able to log in for the first time to the splunk web and i did changed my password as they instructed me to do so but now if i try to use the same web interface http://127.0.0.1:8000 for the second time to the browser to get in to the splunk web GUI the browser says " Firefox can't establish connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:8000".
Please help me how can i get to the Splunk web
run this to see if the service is up and running.
service --status-all | grep splunkd
Thanks
Thanks dinesshp
its seems as if my splunkd is not installed because if i run the command #service --status-all | grep splunkd it doesn't show anything on the next command line and even if i use #rmp -qa | less its shows all the installed programs but not splunkd
