How can i change permission below "$SPLUNK_HOME/var" ?

Hi,
How can i change permission below "$SPLUNK_HOME/var" ?
I want to change "644" to "600".

Although I'd be inclined to suggest that someone not knowing something as basic as that is possibly not in a position to untangle the knots if something goes amiss, and would discourage them from doing it.
