Splunk is that which sees and indexes all data. No gray areas, no shadows, no clouds can stop the reading and indexing of data. Splunk is the means to search all the disparate data with simple commands.

For the less technical, I always say to think of it as a Google for your data with advanced analysis and reporting layered on top of the standard Google search results. This seems to be the easiest way to explain Splunk to the non technical.
