Smartstore storage estimate for non-clustered splunk environemnt

I would like to know the best formula to calculate my storage needs on non-clustered splunk environment for setting up Smartstore. Also would like to know if smartstore is a recommended option for non-clusters indexer deployment?

Can we set both hot and cache storage on same mount point?
