Speaker Catalog 2023

Speaker Catalog 2023

Read First

Hello Everyone! I am excited to push live this refreshed version of the Speaker Catalog! Previously we linked out to a google sheet, which was less than ideal for a few reasons, so I've opted to make it live RIGHT HERE in the Knowledge Base of the Splunk User Group Leaders Hub.

10 new speakers have been added in 2023
Last updated - 3/23/23
Apply to speak here

A few items to note:

  • Currently, the only "filter" available is simply the Table of Contents which can be used to navigate to a speaker's section. Therefore, if you're looking for a specific topic, you may CTRL/COMMAND + F on this page, or scroll through and see what is of interest to you.
  • Nearly all fields of the Speaker Interest form were marked optional, so if there's an element that seems to be missing in one speaker's section that you see elsewhere, it's just because they didn't fill it in.
  • Did you reach out to a speaker and not hear back? Are you a speaker and found outdated info in here? Any other issues? Please email me: rwoods@splunk.com
  • Are you or is someone you know interested in speaking at a Splunk User Group? Send them the form so that they can be added! Anyone may submit, as it's up to the User Group leaders to actually select the speaker.
  • Most of what you see here is technical, but other topics are relevant too! Would you like to lead a wellness session, tech resume writing, professional development, beer tasting, Bollywood dancing, or any other type of talk or session? If you have the expertise, you are welcome to submit a talk!
  • Not seeing a topic that you need? Would you like to request a topic or a speaker? Contact rwoods@splunk.com with all relevant details.

Thank you all! Feel free to comment on this article if you have any questions.

Best,
Renee Woods
Sr. Manager, Splunk Community

  • Splunking 3D Printers with OctoPrint

Ready-to-go sessions

  • Splunk Your Hobby - 3D Printers
  • After getting into Dungeons and Dragons a bit, I decided to start 3D printing miniatures, battle scenery, and enemies. After 2 rolls of PLA through my printer, I noticed there was an option in Octoprint to log the system. So I Splunk'd my 3D printer logs, got a more accurate analysis of print time, and print weight, and was able to prioritize prints based on remaining filament and time until the next session. I built a dashboard that integrated with the Camera on the rig so I could keep tabs on print status, and overall efficiency. The logs also helped me decide which slicer software was most efficient in estimations and material usage.

  • 5 Reasons Why OpenTelemetry is the Future of Observability
  • It has been said that open source is eating the world and in the observability space, the project behind this movement is OpenTelemetry. When it comes to observability, there are lots of opinions, but limited answers. Understanding what data to collect and how to collect it properly is fundamental to ensuring users have the answers they need when they need them. The OpenTelemetry approach focuses on open standards and open-source instrumentation as well as data collection. Why is an open standard and open-source approach to instrumentation and data collection so compelling? This talk will provide five reasons why OpenTelemetry is disrupting the observability market.
  • Log Support in OpenTelemetry
  • End users are interested in the plans for logs in OpenTelemetry. Will logging client libraries be introduced? Will native logging capabilities be added to the collector? How do context and resources work with logs? This session will dive into these topics to explain the current state and future direction. A demo of the current capabilities will be provided.
