License expired during development period. How to clear license violations (reinstall or clear out index)?

We have significantly busted our license during some testing and development of our Splunk Enterprise with apps.

A few questions:

1. Does _indexes get included in the license count?
2. If we clear out the index, does this clear out the license violation?
3. Would just reinstalling Splunk again be the best answer to clear the license violations whilst we are in this phase?

1. No, internal indexes are not included in count.
2. No it wouldn't help.
3. It would clear license violations. You can as well copy all the data from old installation - just create indexes first, stop splunk and then copy data from old installation ($splunk_home$/var/lib/splunk/indexname/)
