Using free splunk enterprise if that helps, cannot add new apps and keep getting this error is there a way to circumvent this?

possibly no connection to splunkbase?. You can download the required add-on/app and then upload/install via GUI. https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/AddOns/released/Overview/Singleserverinstall

"No route to host" generally means that DNS can't resolve or a firewall is blocking access.
Check your DNS configuration at /etc/resolv.conf

Test DNS resolution with nslookup:
nslookup google.com

Check for firewall rules that may be blocking you:
iptables -L

Thanks this solved my problem, you can just download the apps from splunkbase to your pc and upload it to your server via the GUI from your PC
