Why is the fschange monitor being deprecated?

The Splunk 5 release notes say the fschange monitor is being deprecated? Why is Splunk dropping one of the better security features of the product? Most IT folks try and minimize the number of agents that run on a given machine. Without the fschange monitor, we'll have to run something like OSSEC or Samhain. That's just one more piece of software to manage and potentially break.

Does anyone at Splunk have an ETA for when it will be dropped completely?

Thx.
