Hi team!
I am preparing an update process and there is likely to be a mismatch of versions between the indexer and the universal forwarder.
I just read that and I have some questions.
https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Forwarder/8.0.2/Forwarder/Compatibilitybetweenforwardersandind...
"An M in a cell indicates that this version of forwarder can send both event data and metrics data to the corresponding version of indexer."
What are these data metric? How can I use them?
"An S in a cell indicates that this version of forwarder can send data to this version of indexer after you change the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)/Transport Layer Security (TLS) version and cipher suite on the forwarder."
What changes I have to do here?
Thank you!
Hi @christianubeda,
you can find more infos about metrics at https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.0.2/Metrics/Overview
If you think to upgrade UFs to the latest version of Indexer (possibly 😎 you'll not have problems
the table at https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Forwarder/8.0.2/Forwarder/Compatibilitybetweenforwardersandind... ,that I think is the source of your question, is related to the possibility to maintain old UFs with new Indexers, but if you upgrade all to the same version, you'll not have problems.
Ciao.
Giuseppe
Hi @gcusello!
I can't update these UF right now.
For that reason I have to undertand what will happeds...
what is the main difference between data and metrics data?
So if I have a S in tha table, what changes I have to do?
Thank you!
Hi @christianubeda,
data are the normal events that you usually manage in Splunk, metrics are data captured and stored as tables as you can see in the above link, but proably you aren't using them.
So, if you want to upgrade your Indexers to 8.0.2, you can have only UFs 7.x and 8.x, not 6.x or older.
Ciao.
