How to replace integrated pdf server of Splunk 5 with the PDF Report Server app ?

Hello,

In order to do pdf reporting for an advanced XML dashboard, i would like to reuse the PDF Report Server app, but when installing it, i don't see any option "Use PDF Report Server box" on system setting -> Email alert settings.

So is there anybody knows how to setup to reuse that PDF Report Server app ?

My OS is Opensuse 64b.

Add this to $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/system/local/alert_actions.conf

[email]

reportServerEnabled = 1

Then tail $SPLUNK_HOME/var/log/splunk/python.log as you test scheduled pdf delivery to see the status of the pdf generation

The integrated PDF generation in Splunk 5 works for simple XML only. If your dashboard uses advanced XML, and you have the PDF Report Server app installed, Splunk will continue to use it. See Upgrade PDF printing for Splunk Web in the Installation Manual for more information.

The PDF Server app should work if your advanced XML is correct. It sounds as if you have a follow-up question here about your XML; you should post that to Answers in a separate question (include the dashboard XML) and see if the community can help you debug it.

I went through the troubleshooting guide, as given in your answer and thanks to it (even it it took quite a long time, especially due to selinux which prevents xauth from running correctly) I can now see the PDF sample in the little blue box. So I'm sure the pdf report server is now running.

However, I'm still unable to create an advanced XML view which can be exported as PDF. Could you tell me which module you're using in adv XML to be able to print through the pdf report server ? Which version of the pdf app are you also using ?

Okay, let's start a step at a time, with the PDF Server app itself--we need to make sure that it is configured and working properly, then if it is, we can see what might be going on with your dashboard. Have you used this PDF Server app instance successfully before? I see 3 buttons "Print","Schedule PDF delivery", Generate PDF" in my advanced XML, but i can only use "print" function, the other 2 buttons, when i clicked on, one said "PDF generation is not available in this view", other said "unable to render PDF" ???? i've already installed PDF report server on my Linux
