How to renew or disable the default certificate on our dedicated Splunk deployment server that has been expired?

Our Bro IDS has informed us that the default certificate on our dedicated Splunk deployment server has expired. Deployment clients to server communication occur in our internal network (not on the open Internet). My question:

How do I make this problem go away? I'd prefer to either renew the default certificate without much headache or disable SSL entirely as it's not recommended in the documentation for deployment communication. It's not worth it to me to use 3rd party certs, or create new certs if I need to push files to the deployment clients.

Anyone have any experience with this?
