Cluster members not identical

I'm designing a cluster migration and a sticking point is that some of the peers that will be joined to the indexe cluster are using local drives for index storage, and some of them are using SAN. I'm presuming that as long as $SPLUNK_HOME is configured correctly on each server this shouldn't be an issue but I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this before, maybe there is a better way, or maybe this just won't work.

Followup: I avoided this situation by making sure my mount points were identical despite physically being different storage mediums.
