Plotting time of day on the Y axis

I'm trying to plot the time of day a particular event happens every day.

the data looks like this :
01/02/2012, 19:08
02/02/2012, 19:10
03/02/2012, 19:46
...

Its pretty easy to pretend the time is a decimal, but then the Y scale is skewed so that there are no results above .59 of an hour (the difference between 19:59 and 18:00 looks much larger than it actually is)

or, I can convert the minutes to minute*100/60 so the Y axis scales, but then the mouseover is incorrect.

Is there a way to tell the tooltip to use a set of values other than the set of values used for plotting ?

Is this something you are looking for?

This will put time data on Y:

"SOMESEARCH" | bin _time span=6h | chart count by _time

Then, set chart type to bar.
