How to pass Timepicker token value to a macro?

Hello

I am trying to pass $field1.earliest$ value from a timepicker to a macro as an argument, but the macro gives an error saying that it can only alphanumeric, _ and - characters. Any idea on how I can overcome this and pass the value?
