For a simple XML view, go to your dashboard and turn on editing in the top right. Then for your specific Dashboard panel select edit and choose 'Edit Visualization'. You'll see an option for drill down and you can change in to 'Off'.
It appears that the screen shot in the docs needs to be updated.
