I have installed splunk enterprise on an instance of Linux on Amazon ec2. It is running now and I have started Splunk with the command start. But I cannot start the GUI web interface of Splunk using the IP: 8000. The error that I am getting is that "it is not possible to reach this page". Why am I getting this error? please help me.

Hi,

You need to open port 8000 in your Security Group configuration that is used by the EC2 instance.
Are you able to telnet to the host server(where splunk is installed) on port 8000 from your machine?

for e.g. command is:
telnet "Replace this with Public IP of the EC2 instance" 8000

Hi @brober27,

Are you checking with public domain or IP ?
Can you please verify the Splunk port open/ accessible publicly (In this case, it might be firewall issue also.) ?

Thanks
Kamlesh

First thing that comes to mind is what ip address are you using to go to the url?
Make sure that you are using the aws instance external ip.
