Why is my dbxquery returnning no results?

Hi,

I'm running simple dbxquery and it's not returning any results 

dbxquery query="select * from departments;" connection="gmysqlg1"

the same query as Inputs with the same connection runs fine on scheduling

Splunk Enterprise

9.0.0

What is your architecture? Do you get any errors or just 0 results?

I get "No results found. Try expanding the time range."

I have a mysql that can answer the query (and Splunk collect from when using dbx connect).

the Splunk is stand-alone (I installed it both on mac and aws Linux - same results)
