Why do Backward links and self referential links fall outside drawing area?

when I enable Sankey diagram backward links and/or self referential links I see them being drawn at the edges of my visualization (or dashboard panel) but since it does not shrink the original plot 95% of these links are drawn outside the visible area.

Am I missing something?
Or anyone know how to fix this (for a dashboard, where I can change things trough css)

I'm having the same issues.  Has anyone figured this out? I tried adding fake data with SPL (makeresults) to push the graphic up.  This works but isn't the best solution.
