VMware app: No password found for this vc please save a password

While installing VMware app 3.0 and connecting vCenter, we used "mycompanydomain\splunkadmin" as a VC user name, and received "No password found for this vc please save a password" in VC Credential Validation. Can we use AD account for this setting?

"domain\username" will fail in VMware app 3.0.
Please use username@domain as a user name.
