Splunk DB Connect 2: I've created a connected to my MySQL database, but how do I configure inputs for indexing data?

So I have managed to create a connection to my database using DB Connect and now I want to index the data from the database. I have tried creating inputs from the Operations tab, but I haven't had any luck with this. Am I going in the right direction here? Can someone point out any straight forward steps to doing this as I've been following the documentation, but failing.

You don't have to do it from inside the app with the interactive stuff, try doing it from Settings -> Data inputs -> Splunk DB Connect Input Service -> New. Enter the appropriate values in the form, including: SQL, a timestamp field and a rising value field and a schedule. It is very straightforward there.
