Splunk DB Connect 2: How to troubleshoot why the JRE status is red?

The JRE status is displayed red. May I please know what's the reason? The Java path provided is correct. Please let me know if any other things need to be looked at to make the JRE status green.

I had the same issue. No status was given as to why DBConnect was not functioning. I finally searched through the splunkd.log and found that the user did not have the dbconnect permissions. Once I added the dbconnect roles to the user, I was finally able to connect. Hope this helps.

Thanks sanders, the issue is not with the permissions. dbconnect permission was already enabled.

Hi pprakash2, there is a good set of troubleshooting documentation here : http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/DBX/2.2.0/DeployDBX/Troubleshooting

There's nothing there that directly mentions the JRE config specifically, but it is something good to keep handy, and otherewise review to see if anything stands out as an issue.

Concerning the matter at hand, review the prereq doc here : http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/DBX/2.1.0/DeployDBX/Prerequisites

Essentially, do you meet these requirements?

  • Before deploying Splunk DB Connect, install the Java Platform, Standard Edition Development Kit (JDK) 8 from Oracle Java SE Downloads.
    • Installing just the Java Platform, Standard Edition Runtime Environment (JRE) is not sufficient.
    • JDK 8 (with Update 31 or later) is required.
    • Only use a supported JVM in server mode, not in client mode.
    • Only the Oracle JDK is certified and supported for use with Splunk DB Connect.

Please let me know if this helps!

Thanks muebel, Our test environment meets all these requirements. Thing is test env still has splunk 6.1 version. I'm not sure if this issue has anything to do with the version.

I'm able to create an identity and a connection, the connection is validated. But the JRE status is still red. What does this mean?

The Health monitor in the DB Connect app redirects me to the error page: XML Syntax Error: Cannot find object mapper for panel type.

I'm using splunk 6.1 in one of the test environment. In my local machine I am using 6.4 with which I don't see these issues. Is there a fix for JRE status in the latest version?

are the permissions and ownership correct on the JRE for your splunk user?

Are you seeing anything in the splunkd logs?

I seem to remember, i had to also add the jdk on my DBX box.
