Hi,
I am trying to send sms to 1234567890@txt.att.net whenever an alert is triggered. however i am receiving an the below error
command="sendemail", {u' 1234567890@txt.att.net': (550, '5.7.1 Unable to relay')} while sending mail to: 1234567890@txt.att.net.
Can anyone help me in resolving this issues?
Thanks.
If you're on *nix the sendemail command will use localhost as mail server by default. Make sure your localhost can send out emails, because the error message indicates this is not possible.
Hi, i have setup Splunk Enterprise on Windows and have provided the server as well, if i am trying to send the mail from my machine via outlook its working fine... but via splunk using sendemail its not working only for 1234567890@txt.att.net but if i provide my email id, its working fine... Thanks for quick response.
Your email server is blocking you, because your Splunk server probably needs to be added as relay host - ask your mail server admin for help. This is not a Splunk problem 😉
cheers, MuS
Hi Mus,
I was able to send the mail from the same system without any issues. I am assuming for adding Splunk Server as relay host, you meant to add the IP address of the machine in that case the mail from outlook wouldn't have received. Please correct me if am wrong.
You are able to send internal emails in your company, but you are not able to send external emails. Your mail server does not allow relaying of external emails form the Splunk server - talk to your mail server admin they will know what to do - if not use this link

🙂
I don't know about the SMS app, but alerting is not available in Splunk Free. Are you sure you aren't on an Enterprise trial license, or a Cloud trial?
I am currently on Splunk Enterprise and alerts are working fine just not able to send it to 1234567890@txt.att.net.
