SA-ldapsearch - how to upgrade java / openjdk to 1.7.x on linux?

I'm running RedHat linux, trying to use SA-ldapsearch to query AD, but am getting the following odd error:

$ ../../bin/splunk cmd python SA-ldapsearch/bin/ldapsearch.py
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/splunk/program/LDAPSearch : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0
at ...
...
Could not find the main class: com.splunk.program.LDAPSearch. Program will exit.

I think my java is out of date.

$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_24"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment
...

However I can't seem to get this OpenJDK updated, what is the command?
