How to Monitor URL's in Splunk without Website Monitoring App?

Hello,

We are facing issue while  using website monitoring APP to monitor URL's as it increases Splunk PID's and stops splunk service automatically in our HF.

Is there any other way(script/addon) to monitor URL's in splunk without making use of Website Monitoring App.

Can you provide more details, we used an app called website input app where we use this to parse the status page of different websites and get that data indexed into splunk.
