I really like the idea but all of our dashboards are written in Advanced XML. I can't seem to get it to work.

Advanced XML has been deprecated since Splunk 6.3 (http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/6.4.2/AdvancedDev/Whatsinthismanual#Advanced_XML_Depreca...) so we don't support it. I'm not an expert in Advanced XML but the infobutton is just a piece of javascript, so it should be possible to load it. There are plenty of answers on this site that will show you how. Good luck!
