Application monitoring

Hi all,

Apologies if this topic has already been discussed already, but wondering if you could help me with a Splunk app that does application/service monitoring.

We are already using NIX app to monitor the VM level metrics, but want to drill down further into the application/service layer.

  • We have applications deployed in linux topology and wondering what is the best approach to monitor whether the application is up/down. If the application goes down, raise an alert.
  • For a weblogic server, how do we monitor the applications deployed (for ex., Business Services and Proxy Services deployed on OSB server). We have already installed Weblogic App for Splunk, but do not seem to get this feedback from the OSB server.

Many Thanks,
Krishna

Splunk only knows what your logs tell it. Please don't make the mistake of thinking Splunk is a monitoring system, its not. If your application logs some kind of damage pattern when it fails, use that. Unfortunately this question is too broad to answer in every case as applications and outage tolerance varies in every environment.

Your application engineers should be able to tell you what an outage pattern looks like, then craft your searches/alerts to look for that.
