Hi

I have need to migrate Splunk, with all the bucket index, from a server CentOs to server ubuntu.
On the new server is not yet installed Splunk.

From documentation is sufficient copy the entire contents of the directory $ SPLUNK_HOME and install Splunk.

http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/latest/Installation/MigrateaSplunkinstance

But i don't understand the different from install and start because is same command.

Can you explain best?

Thanks

Hi,

The best approach is to install splunk on your Ubuntu server then copy all the contents to the new server and then start splunk.

Pietro,

Yes you overwrite the new files with your old splunk install.
