Deployment Architecture

I like to add a second search peer with a different Windows OS (2008R2) then my main Splunk platform 2012R2 - is that possible?

Hi,

I am confused by the documentation and all other answers and info, here and there.

I like to add a second search peer with a different Windows OS (2008R2) then my main Splunk platform which is: 2012R2

Question: is this possible? Or must it be exactly the same Windows OS?
I understand 2012R2 - 2012RS could do the job but can 2012R2-2008R2 also do the same job?

hope someone can give me the right direction on this issue

regards
