Why does the Palo Alto Networks App for Splunk make calls out to Palo Alto?

We recently installed the Palo Alto Networks App for Splunk and we're seeing a lot of web calls from our on-prem Splunk environment to Palo Alto. Does anyone know if this is related to grabbing threat info or something similar?

Thanks!

Yes, the app pulls new Applipedia data from Palo Alto Networks periodically. Nothing is sent to Palo Alto Networks, and the connections to pull Applipedia data are not tracked. These checks are relatively infrequent (2 times per day by default). You can modify the timing or remove the check entirely by editing default/savedsearches.conf and modifying/removing the Applications - Retrieve New Apps saved search.
