Hi, I'm unable to launch the Splunk Add-on on AWS page on the Admin console, page show as Loading but no output at all. No abnormalities seen in the splunkd.log, only some checksum mismatch errors.  My splunk was recently upgraded to 9.2.2, last tried on earlier version it was working.  Splunk Add-on on AWS version is 5.1.0. Can I check if anyone came across the same issue and managed to resolve it?

OK. That actually makes sense. I'm no AD expert but indeed as far as I remember you cannot use local accounts on domain controllers - all "local" accounts are indeed domain accounts. If this is not described in the forwarder installation manual, it could be worth posting a feedback (there is a feedback form on the bottom of every doc page).

One important thing though - %USERPROFILE% in case of a scripted input run by splunkd.exe will at best point to Splunk Forwarder's technical user's profile. Is that what you want? Why not simply use the forwarder's SPLUNK_HOME variable then?

No. It's not about the client certificate. I understand that the FIN/ACK packet comes from your end of the connection. And the message clearly indicates that it's the server's certificate which is not trusted. I asked about on-prev vs. cloud earlier because the additional question with an on-prem installation is whether you are using any TLS-inspection tools in your network. Either as an explicit proxy or as pass-through appliance. Anyway, first thing I'd try would be to simply openssl s_client to that Cisco service and make sure what the cert looks like before you start looking for local trusted cert store.

Finally, and after 3 weeks problem is solved and I was sent a new 6-month 10GB/day developer license.  In the meantime I've tried to apply for renewal on the web site for 3 additional times sent 3 emails to devinfo@splunk.com got in-touch with sales guy The sales guy (Hubert) finally sent my a temp 45-day 10GB/per day license to come over this and promised to find out what happens. In addition he mentioned that possibly developer licenses are stopped and no longer available. But only 2 days later a very kind Lady (Rinita) from Splunk sent me an email with copy to another license guy, apologizing for delay. And finally the license was sent last night with any further comment. So, whatever might happen to you guys when experiencing similar things: never give up :-), finally you will find someone able and willing to assist. That's great guys ! Ekkehard

Hi  @isoutamo,  The below is the raw event. I dont have access to props.conf. so just wanted to extract You do not need direct access to props.conf.  Just use Splunk Web's Settings -> Source Types interface.  There are two menus where you can customize your timestamp handling, Timestamp and Advanced.   As @isoutamo says, your problem might not be in Splunk's time extraction; instead, the apparent difference could be in time zone.  If this is not the case, the best cause of action is to correct time extraction.  Search time correction should only be used as the last resort.  It can be done, of course. | rex "^(?<timestamp>\S+ \S+)" | eval _time = strptime(timestamp, "%F %T,%3N") The big problem with search time adjustment of an essential datapoint such as _time is that you lose precision when trying to set index search interval.

(First, thank you for providing data emulation.)  Do you mean something like this? This feature is called "Chart Overlay" in Splunk search visualization.  You open "Visualization", select "Bar chart" as base visualization, then, in "Format", select "Chart Overlay", as in this illustration: For illustration purposes, I also selected "View as Axis" "On" because the two measures are too different numerically. But back to your search. How can I also create a time series graph on same graph where x axis is time and then y axis is a bar chart of count column + line chart of new processing_time(ms) You are doing lots of calculations that do not contribute to this end goal.  If you really want to extract potentially useful information, I would suggest the following | rex "\S+ \S+\s\[(?<somenumber>\d+)\] (?<log_level>\w+) (?<class>\S+) \[(?<someoutput>[^\]]+)\] - (?<message>.+)" | rex field=message "^(?<action>[^\(,]+)" | rex field=message ", used (?<db_bulk_write_time>\d+) (?<time_unit>\w+)" But the simplest search would be index=abc sourcetype = example_sourcetype | rex field=message ", used (?<db_bulk_write_time>\d+) (?<time_unit>\w+)" | transaction startswith="Saved messages to DB" endswith="Done bulk saving messages" keepevicted=t | where db_bulk_write_time > 0 | eval duration = duration * 1000 | timechart span=500ms max(Count) as Count sum(duration) as "processing_time(ms)" Note I use span=500ms just to make some useful graphs.  You need to adjust to your needs. (And decide whether sum is the correct stats function in your use case.) Here is a fuller emulation with more unused extractions. | makeresults | eval data = split("2024-08-07 21:13:07,710 [39] INFO DistributorCommon.WMQClient [(null)] - All Read threads finished flush the messages, total messages: 0 2024-08-07 21:13:07,710 [39] INFO DistributorCommon.WMQClient [(null)] - Hello,  I'm wondering if we can send the PaloAlto firewall logs to splunk *cloud* via HEC? We've done that once when evaluating other SIEM solution (crowd-strike NG-SIEM). As to splunk, the documents I can find in Internet all recommend using this flow:  PaloAlto -> syslog-ng+universal forwarder -> splunk cloud. Does anyone know why HEC is not a preferred option in this case? any potential issue here? Regards, Iris
