Splunk Core Certified User Prerequisites and cost

I am planning to take the core certified user certification. Heard that it was free but have to complete the splunk fundamentals training first? But on the splunk sites it says that all the exams are 125$ each in the certification handbook.

Can someone clarify the prerequisites and cost for the certification?

Fundamentals 1 is free but the test is $125 through Pearson Vue.

Currently Fundamentals 1 is free. Once completed you should create an account in PersonVue and setup for exam ($125 for 1 or $500 for 5 splunk cert. exams). Retakes are included in the $125. Retakes beyond 5 need approval check the below link for more details.
