View our Tech Talk: Admin Edition,  Monitoring Splunk for Cloud Admins  to learn how to view information about the status of your Splunk Cloud environment using the Cloud Monitoring Console (CMC). Via a series of dashboards, CMC provides information on exactly what you need to do to keep your system healthy and up-to-date.

Tune in to learn about:

  • How to monitor license and resource utilization for cloud stacks
  • How to discover optimization opportunities and ensure upgrade readiness
  • How the Cloud Monitoring Console app gets updated

Recapping for all!

Q: I noticed that your version says 8.0.2004.1. What version of Splunk Enterprise does this map to? When looking at Splunk's website that version does not exist
A: On Splunk Cloud Splunk 8.x versions are update every 6 weeks. Cloud runs ahead of on premise availability. Are you looking for on premise versions to map to?

Q: I have a customer with both Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud. Is there an equivalent app for Enterprise?
A: The Monitoring Console on Enterprise is roughly equivalent to the Cloud Monitoring Console. They are working on Workload Management integration now.

Q: There are a lot of different dashboards and areas to go for information. In larger enterprise environments (hundreds of users and many supporting Splunk components), are there any tips or resources we can reference to ensure we see most or the entire picture as to what is happening within the environment?
A: The Cloud Monitoring Console is intended to show the big picture view for a cloud deployment. We do have some upcoming Cloud admin views that further help augment a big picture view as well. I'd love to hear ideas or feedback on what we can do in CMC to help.

Q: How can we dig into the volume usage?

A:Volume Licensing dashboard in the Cloud Monitoring Console currently shows daily ingest volume.  We are currently working on a couple of additional features that look into both storage and provides some projection information about ingestion and storage (alert you if it looks like you may go over storage entitlement).  I’ve found that the Indexes and Storage dashboard provides a good starting point with Index Detail having the drill down capability to show you what hosts/indexes are spiking with regard to ingestion.
