update search head & indexer to 6.0.3 but not forwarders?

I would like to update my search head and indexer (ver. 6.0 both) to version 6.0.3.

Do I need to update all of my forwarders to version 6.0.3 at the same time? If I do not update at same time what functionality do I lose?

Before:
Search Head [v. 6.0]
Indexer [v. 6.0]
Forwarders [v. 6.0]

Would like to update to:
Search Head [v. 6.0.3]
Indexer [v. 6.0.3]
Forwarders [v. 6.0] leave for now because there are LOTS of these

You don't need to update your forwarders, there's no functionality lost in terms of compatibility between those versions.
